Trinity Sunday |
| Almighty and
everlasting God, who hast given unto us thy servants grace, by the
confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity,
and in the power of the Divine Majesty to worship the Unity: We beseech thee
that thou wouldest keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us
at last to see thee in thy one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son
and the Holy Spirit livest and reignest, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. |

Acts 2:1-11
The Coming of the Holy Spirit
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And
suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it
filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them
tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they
were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as
the Spirit gave them utterance. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews,
devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude
came together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them
speaking in his own language. And they were amazed and wondered, saying,
"Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear,
each of us in his own native language? Par'thians and Medes and E'lamites
and residents of Mesopota'mia, Judea and Cappado'cia, Pontus and Asia,
Phryg'ia and Pamphyl'ia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyre'ne,
and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians, we
hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God."

Joel 2:28-32
"And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit on all
flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream
dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even upon the menservants and
maidservants in those days, I will pour out my spirit. "And I will give
portents in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of
smoke. The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before
the great and terrible day of the LORD comes. And it shall come to pass that
all who call upon the name of the LORD shall be delivered; for in Mount Zion
and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the LORD has said, and
among the survivors shall be those whom the LORD calls.

1 Corinthians 12:4-13
One Body With Many Members
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are
varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of working,
but it is the same God who inspires them all in every one. To each is given
the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through
the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of
knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit,
to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of
miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between
spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation
of tongues. All these are inspired by one and the same Spirit, who
apportions to each one individually as he wills. For just as the body is one
and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one
body, so it is with Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one
body -- Jews or Greeks, slaves or free -- and all were made to drink of one
Spirit.

John 20:19-23
Jesus Appears to the Disciples
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut
where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among
them and said to them, "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed
them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the
Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent
me, even so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and
said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they
are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."

John 14:8-17
Jesus, the Way to the Father
Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied."
Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know
me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, `Show
us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in
me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the
Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father
and the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of the works
themselves. "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do
the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go
to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father
may be glorified in the Son; if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father,
and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you for ever, even the
Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him
nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you.
