O God, who before the passion of thy only begotten Son didst reveal his
glory upon the holy mount: Grant unto us that we, beholding by faith the
light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be
changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through the same Jesus Christ
our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever. Amen. |

Exodus 24:12(13-14)15-18
On the Mountain of God
The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain, and wait there;
and I will give you the tables of stone, with the law and the commandment,
which I have written for their instruction." So Moses rose with his servant Joshua, and Moses went up into the
mountain of God. And he said to the elders, "Tarry here for us, until we come to you
again; and, behold, Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever has a cause, let him
go to them." Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. The glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it
six days; and on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the
cloud. Now the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a devouring fire on
the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. And Moses entered the cloud, and went up on the mountain. And Moses was
on the mountain forty days and forty nights. |

Epistle |
Philippians 3:7-14
But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of
knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all
things, and count them as refuse, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, based on law,
but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that
depends on faith; that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his
sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that if possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect; but I press
on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brethren, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but one thing I
do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in
Christ Jesus. |

Matthew 17:1-9
The Transfiguration
And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his
brother, and led them up a high mountain apart. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and
his garments became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Eli'jah, talking with him. And Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is well that we are here; if you wish,
I will make three booths here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Eli'jah." He was still speaking, when lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a
voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well
pleased; listen to him." When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces, and were filled
with awe. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Rise, and have no fear." And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, "Tell no
one the vision, until the Son of man is raised from the dead." |
