The Sunday of the Resurrection:
EASTER SUNDAY |
O God, who for our redemption didst give thine only begotten Son to the
death of the cross, and by his glorious resurrection hast delivered us from
the power of our enemy: Grant us so to die daily to sin, that we may
evermore live with him in the joy of his resurrection; through the same thy
Son Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
or
O God, who didst make this most holy night to shine with the glory of the
Lords resurrection: Stir up in thy Church that Spirit of adoption which is
given to us in Baptism, that we, being renewed both in body and mind, may
worship thee in sincerity and truth; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord,
who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the same Spirit, one God,
now and for ever. Amen.
or
Almighty God, who through thine only begotten Son Jesus Christ hast overcome
death and opened unto us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who
celebrate with joy the day of the Lords resurrection, may be raised
from the death of sin by thy life giving Spirit; through the same Jesus
Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the same Spirit ever,
one God, world without end. Amen. |

Acts 10:34-43
Gentiles Hear the Good News
And Peter opened his mouth and said: "Truly I perceive that God shows no
partiality, but in every nation any one who fears him and does what is right
is acceptable to him. You know the word which he sent to Israel, preaching
good news of peace by Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all), the word which was
proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism
which John preached: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit
and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all that were
oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. And we are witnesses to all
that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him
to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and
made him manifest; not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as
witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. And he
commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that he is the one
ordained by God to be judge of the living and the dead. To him all the
prophets bear witness that every one who believes in him receives
forgiveness of sins through his name."

Exodus 14:10-14,21-25; 15:20-21
When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and
behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were in great fear.
And the people of Israel cried out to the LORD; and they said to Moses, "Is
it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die
in the wilderness? What have you done to us, in bringing us out of Egypt? Is
not this what we said to you in Egypt, `Let us alone and let us serve the
Egyptians'? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than
to die in the wilderness." And Moses said to the people, "Fear not, stand
firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today;
for the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The LORD
will fight for you, and you have only to be still." Then Moses stretched out
his hand over the sea; and the LORD drove the sea back by a strong east wind
all night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. And the
people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters
being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. The Egyptians
pursued, and went in after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh's
horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. And in the morning watch the LORD in
the pillar of fire and of cloud looked down upon the host of the Egyptians,
and discomfited the host of the Egyptians, clogging their chariot wheels so
that they drove heavily; and the Egyptians said, "Let us flee from before
Israel; for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians."
The Song of Miriam
Then Miriam, the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her
hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and dancing. And
Miriam sang to them: "Sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the
horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea." |

Colossians 3:1-4
The New Life in Christ
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above,
where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things
that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your
life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then
you also will appear with him in glory.

John 20:1-10(11-18)
The Resurrection of Jesus
Now on the first day of the week Mary Mag'dalene came to the tomb early,
while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the
tomb. So she ran, and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one
whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the
tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him." Peter then came out with
the other disciple, and they went toward the tomb. They both ran, but the
other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first; and stooping to look
in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon
Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; he saw the linen cloths
lying, and the napkin, which had been on his head, not lying with the linen
cloths but rolled up in a place by itself Then the other disciple, who
reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet
they did not know the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. Then the
disciples went back to their homes.
Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look
into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of
Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. They said to her,
"Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "Because they have taken
away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him." Saying this, she
turned round and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus.
Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom do you seek?" Supposing
him to be the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away,
tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away." Jesus said to
her, "Mary." She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rab-bo'ni!" (which means
Teacher). Jesus said to her, "Do not hold me, for I have not yet ascended to
the Father; but go to my brethren and say to them, I am ascending to my
Father and your Father, to my God and your God." Mary Mag'dalene went and
said to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord"; and she told them that he had
said these things to her.

Matthew 28:1-10
The Resurrection of Jesus
Now after the sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary
Mag'dalene and the other Mary went to see the sepulchre. And behold, there
was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and
came and rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was like
lightning, and his raiment white as snow. And for fear of him the guards
trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, "Do not
be afraid; for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here;
for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go
quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold,
he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. Lo, I have told
you." So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and
ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, "Hail!" And
they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to
them, "Do not be afraid; go and tell my brethren to go to Galilee, and there
they will see me." |
