Pope Benedict expresses 'pain and sadness' about events in Tibet
Rome (ENI). Pope Benedict XVI has appealed for "dialogue and tolerance" in
Tibet, warning that violence will exacerbate problems, in his first comments
about the situation there since the outbreak of unrest in mid-March. "I
follow with great anxiety the news, coming these days from Tibet. My
fatherly heart feels pain and sadness in the face of the suffering of so
many people," Pope Benedict said on 19 March at the end of his weekly
audience at the Vatican. "Violence does not solve problems but will only
exacerbate them." [288 words, ENI-08-0237]

'Graceless and totalitarian mindset'
Forward in Faith UK deplores the recent actions against the retired Bishop
of Quincy, the Right Revd Ed MacBurney, by the House of Bishops of TEC as
both pastorally and politically inept: pastorally on account of Bishop
MacBurneys age and tragic family circumstances; politically because of the
certainty that it will alienate others across the Communion who have not yet
grasped the extent of the graceless and totalitarian mindset which now
dominates the Episcopal Church.
We are at a loss to understand why it is an offence for a bishop in good
standing in one province of the Communion to offer episcopal ministry (at
the request of its bishop) to a parish in another.

Exclusion of gay US bishop could spur African bishops to change
Nairobi (ENI). Some Anglican bishops in Kenya say a planned boycott for this
year's Lambeth Conference, a once-a-decade worldwide Anglican church meeting
mid-year, would be unnecessary, if gay US bishop V. Gene Robinson and his
backers will not be attending. But others indicated they are not
reconsidering the boycott as the US Episcopal Church has not repented for
the blessing of same-sex unions. [418 words, ENI-08-0215]
